ABAP Foundations
ABAP Foundations is the first module in this course. Its nine lessons build the modern ABAP and object-oriented programming skills used later for database access, ABAP SQL, and CDS. An unnumbered Git and GitHub workshop follows Lesson 1, once you have created your first ABAP repository object. A mini lesson on local classes and local types follows Lesson 4, building on your first encapsulated objects.
First-time setup
Before starting Lesson 1, follow the setup overview to prepare Eclipse, ADT, and your ABAP Cloud project. If your project already opens in ADT, you are ready to continue.
How to use this module
Each numbered lesson has three parts:
- Learn — follow the guided explanation and implementation.
- Practice — apply the lesson independently.
- Companion — review deeper explanations, reference implementations, and SAP documentation.
Following that order also gives you a clear path from one lesson to the next through the page navigation.
The Git & GitHub workshop uses a similar three-part path—Learn, Lab, and Companion—and does not change the lesson numbering.
The Local Classes & Local Types mini lesson has two parts: Learn → Practice. Complete it after Lesson 4, then continue to Lesson 5. Allow about 60 minutes for the guided lesson and 2.5–3 hours for practice. It has no separate companion and does not change the lesson numbering.
Lessons
Why the workshop comes after Lesson 1
Lesson 1 teaches every workshop prerequisite: working in Eclipse and ADT, using a package, creating an ABAP repository object, and saving and activating it. Learning Git at that point lets you apply version-control habits throughout Lessons 2–9 and the ABAP SQL, CDS & RAP module.
Allow 150–210 minutes total: 90–120 minutes for the guided workshop and 60–90 minutes for its independent lab. The companion is reference material rather than an additional required block.
