Set Up SAP BTP Trial for ABAP Development

This guide covers the SAP BTP side of the setup.

At the end, you should have the ABAP Service URL required when creating an ABAP Cloud Project in Eclipse ADT.

Before you start

This guide assumes Eclipse and ABAP Development Tools (ADT) are already installed. If they are not, start with Install Eclipse and ADT for SAP BTP Trial.

1. Open Your SAP BTP Trial Account

If you do not have an SAP BTP Trial account yet, complete SAP's Get an Account on SAP BTP Trial tutorial, then return to this guide.

Open the SAP BTP Trial cockpit and enter your trial account.

If this is your first time using the trial account, SAP may ask you to select a region and initialize the account.

The initial setup creates the required trial account resources, including a subaccount, Cloud Foundry organization, and space.

2. Open Boosters

From the Global Account page, open:

text
Boosters

Search for:

text
Prepare an Account for ABAP Trial

TIP

Searching for ABAP is usually the quickest way to find it.

3. Run the ABAP Trial Booster

Open:

text
Prepare an Account for ABAP Trial

Then click:

text
Start

Follow the wizard and allow SAP BTP to create the ABAP trial environment.

The booster configures the required resources and creates the ABAP service instance for your trial user.

WARNING

SAP BTP Trial currently allows only one ABAP trial service instance at a time. If you already have one, you do not need to create another.

When the booster completes successfully, choose:

text
Go to Instance

4. Get the ABAP Service URL

In the trial instance screen, locate your ABAP instance.

Open the context menu for the instance and choose:

text
Copy Link

Save the copied URL somewhere temporarily.

Use the copied value as-is rather than trying to construct the URL manually.

Use the ABAP Service URL

Do not copy the SAP BTP Cockpit URL. You need the ABAP service instance URL.

You now have everything you need to create the ABAP Cloud project in Eclipse.

Troubleshooting

The ABAP Trial booster does not appear

Make sure you are looking under the Global Account → Boosters section rather than inside an individual Cloud Foundry space.

Also verify that your SAP BTP Trial account has been fully initialized.

I already have an ABAP trial instance

Do not run the booster again.

Open the existing instance and copy its link instead.

Eclipse says the Service URL is invalid

Check that you copied the ABAP instance link, not:

  • The SAP BTP Cockpit URL
  • The Cloud Foundry API endpoint
  • A subaccount URL
  • A SAP Fiori launchpad URL

Next Step

Return to the main setup flow and create the ABAP Cloud project in Eclipse using the Service URL you copied.
